It can be also used to protect a number of reactive functional groups. 3,4-Dihydro-2H-pyran (DHP) has potential polymer applications as it can be polymerized either with itself or with other unsaturated compounds.

Boiling point of 3,4-Dihydro-2H-pyran (DHP) is at 85°C and freezing point at -70°C.
