Cleaning & Biocide
Formic Acid is used in a variety of households & industrial cleaning applications: e.g. cleaning and descaling of equipment, and cleaning of bathroom surfaces
Feed & Silage
Formic Acid is used as a multitalent in feed, preservation and silage. In animal feed additives, Formic acid is used as a growth promoter. Organic acids, including formic are often blended in mixtures for use as alternatives to antibiotics. In silage (grass and fish), Formic Acid prevents bacteria and mold growth.
Textile & Leather Processing
Formic acid is used in several steps of leather processing to control the pH of waste-water.
Latex Coagulation
One of the traditional uses of Formic acid is the coagulation of natural rubber (produced primarily in south-east Asia).
Building Block for Formate Salts for drilling fluids & deicing agents.

- Drilling Fluid:
Formic acid is the starting material for the production of potassium formate and cesium formate used in the Oil & Gas industry.
- Deicing Agent:
Formic acid as formate de-icer is the high performance de-icer of choice for commercial and residential de-icing. Potassium formate, a salt of formic acid, is an alternative to potassium acetate for use on airport runways, roadways and bridges.
