Gas Treatment

OASE® purple for Natural Gas

OASE® purple

Utilized in the removal of acid gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), the OASE® purple technology has proven its versatility and reliability in natural-gas applications. Our solutions portfolio ranges from selective removal of sulfur components for sales gas to bulk removal of acid gases for LNG applications.

Our customers appreciate this highly efficient and environmentally friendly technology for its flexibility and low capital expenditure (CAPEX). Additionally, operating and maintenance costs (OPEX) are kept low due to the low energy demand of the process and the non-corrosive nature of the solvent. The process also provides a high level of gas purity and product gas recovery while keeping solvent losses to a minimum.

Natural gas

Sales gas

Our broad range of solutions allows us to tailor our designs to the needs of our customer. Our solutions portfolio ranges from bulk to selective removal. Our designs are customized to meet feed gas and product specifications while optimizing capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operating expenditures (OPEX) based on our customer’s priorities.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG)

Our extensive technical experience and reference plants in this field allows BASF to offer solutions that meet deep CO2 removal requirements for a wide range of feed acid gas compositions. Additionally, BASF can go beyond the acid gas removal unit (AGRU) and offer technologies such as total sulfur management systems.

LNG Tanker

Floating LNG

To meet our customer’s stringent off-shore specifications and challenges, we use motion studies and our research in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to adapt our on-shore LNG expertise to provide reliable and low maintenance floating LNG designs.

Our photo shows the latest Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project of the Malaysian oil and gas company PETRONAS (PFLNG DUA). The project has selected BASF’s OASE® purple for its Acid Gas Removal Unit process. This is the first FLNG reference worldwide for BASF’s OASE Gas Treatment technology. The FLNG project opens a new source of supply for cleaner energy as it is designed to extract natural gas from deepwater gas reservoirs in depths up to 1,500 meters. The FLNG facility will be moored over the Rotan Gas Field at a water depth of 1,300 meters, located 140 kilometers offshore Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia in the South China Sea with a capacity to produce 1.5 million tons of LNG annually.
