    Elastopor®: Closed-Cell Polyurethane Rigid Foam

      Elastopor® is used for many applications in the field of heat and cold protection due to excellent insulation properties. This "made-to-measure insulant" boasts extremely low thermal conductivity levels matched by no other conventional insulant. It can reduce thickness while maintaning the same insulation performance.

      Elastopor® is able to flow through and adhere to complex shapes and surfaces which provides a freedom of design as well as complete insulation, even in unconventional designs. Elastopor® systems are available in densities ranging from 2 pcf to 25 pcf.

    Elastopor® as an Important Construction Element

      Elastopor® systems are a significant component of composite (multi-layer) construction elements such as Insulated Metal Panels, Structural Insulated Panels, or other sandwich panels.

      Elastopor® insulation elements with flexible facers (e.g. aluminium, paper) are used in residential construction for sloping, flat-roof and floor insulation as its excellent mechanical properties enable it to also be used in areas subject to weight and force.

      Polyurethane rigid foam blocks can also be produced as slabstock or processed into shaped components like wedges and florist's foam. Foam can also be molded to a wide range of shapes and sizes and can be painted or laminated.

      Its resistance to high temperatures, durability, good insulating properties and simple processing methods makes it feasible to be applied in pipe insulation for long distance pipelines for oil and gas transportation. It can be processed using continuous and discontinuous production methods and are formulated for both rigid and flexible piping. Special flame-proof Elastopor® grades are used in the production of insulated pipes for use in the chemical industry.

    Better Insulated Freezers with Elastopor®

      Elastopor® products are also used in the insulation of refrigerators and freezers. In the early 1990’s BASF patented and launched cyclopentane on the market as an environmental blowing agent for these applications. This foaming technology is now established throughout the world. The latest polyol grades for Elastopor® now achieve the highest insulating quality and productivity.

      Elastopor® polyurethane rigid foam systems are also used to insulate food displays, reach-in commercial refrigerators, picnic coolers, and water heaters.

      Elastopor® is also the insulating core in panels used to produce containers, refrigerated trucks, and walk-in coolers. Elastopor® H is the preferred polyurethane rigid foam system for the production of storage heater insulation. These special formulas make it possible to perform direct foaming in metal jackets or foam moulding for in situ production of elements for retro insulation of hot water tanks at the construction site.
