Hydroxypivalic acid neopentylglycolester molten

Hydroxypivalic acid neopentylglycolester (HPN) is a versatile polyalcohol used in numerous application segments.

General

Adhesives and Sealants
HPN as a building block for the production of polyurethane resins provides a good balance between hardness, flexibility, and adhesion. In reactive hot melt adhesives, it contributes to improved transparency through its tendency to suppress crystallization. The high molecular weight reduces the need for solvents which strongly reduces solvent volatile organic compounds (VOC).

Coatings
HPN can be used to produce various resin types including polyesters and polyurethanes.
In powder coatings, HPN provides a good solubility as well as a lower glass transition and melting temperature compared to neopentyl glycol (NPG). It also enhances the appearance of the coating film by improving flow and leveling during cure without compromising package stability.
HPN is an excellent choice for automotive primer surfacers with increased chip resistance as well as coil coatings that require a high degree of flexibility and exterior durability due to it providing high hydrolytic stability and UV-resistance (UVA/UVB).
