Diethanolamine | CAS No. 111-42-2 |
Diethanolamine (DEA) is a secondary amine belonging to the class of ethanolamines.
Agrochemicals
Combining the properties of amines and alcohols in one molecule, Diethanolamine is used as a building block, and for ph-neutralisation as well as a dilution agent. As an amine, it is mildly alkaline and reacts with acids to form salts or soaps. As an alcohol, diethanolamine can be transformed to ethers and esters. It is miscible with water, most alcohols and polyols.
Coatings
Diethanolamine is both an amine and a diol, and as such it is used in the production of corresponding polymer technologies. For example, it is used to modify esters and aromatic epoxy resins (additional OH group in the resin for crosslinking) as well contributing a special end group for PU resins (provides two OH groups).
Detergents
Ethanolamines are used as a building block, ph-neutralisation- as well as dilution-agent.
Products are offered pure and in solutions with water.
